B1A4's Sandeul And DAY6's Sungjin Talk About Being Best Friends And Rivals Since Elementary School

B1A4’s Sandeul and DAY6’s Sungjin recently dished about their long-running friendship.

On October 9, Sungjin made a guest appearance on Sandeul’s radio program “Starry Night.”

The two have been known to be friends since long before debut, and since the start of the show, they could not hide the excitement and awkwardness of being on broadcast together for the first time.

As they began chatting, their Busan dialects began coming out even more naturally than usual, and they made fun of each other for not being able to get rid of the dialect.

On how they met, Sungjin revealed, “We met for the first time in our sixth year of elementary school at English hagwon (classes outside of school). I heard that there was a kid in the class next door who is good at singing Maya’s ‘Azalea.’ Although we went to different schools at the time, because I heard he was next door [at hagwon], we battled it out once.” He continued, “Since then, I thought it would be great if we start doing music together.”

Sandeul recalled, “People always laugh when I say this, but in middle school, all the students at our school were split in half on their opinions of whether ‘Sungjin is better [at singing]’ or ‘Junghwan (Sandeul’s birth name) is better.'”

Sungjin seemed embarrassed at admitting to the comment, but he went on to explain that they performed together at school festivals and did many music-related activities together.

During the program, Sandeul also sang Park Hyo Shin’s “Fool,” sharing that he was first introduced to the song when Sungjin sang it in middle school. Sungjin also jumped in to sing a few lines.
