Seohyun On Her Experiences In Past Year Since Leaving SM + Future Plans

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun talked about taking on challenges on her own and her plans for the future.

It has now been a year since it was first reported that Girls’ Generation members Seohyun, Sooyoung, and Tiffany had left SM Entertainment. In a recent interview with Seoul Economic Daily, Seohyun described SM as an excellent company, and said that she’d been able to grow up in an environment that had everything. However, she decided she wanted to try doing things on her own and experience challenges.

“Since SM is a large company and has everything, it’s a system where my personal opinion couldn’t be reflected largely in every choice,” she said. “I thought that I had become too settled in such a good environment, and I wanted to try making decisions and creating things on my own.”

She went on to say that in the past year, she’s experienced many things that she never had before. “I’ve been taking total responsibility for things that came about because of my choices, studying a lot, and talking with people from many different fields,” she commented, and shared that taking on challenges on her own has helped her a lot in life. “I think I made a good decision,” she said.

Despite offers from many talent agencies, Seohyun has been under a one-person agency since her departure from SM Entertainment. However, she’s lately been considering joining a new agency.

“Nothing has been totally decided, but I’ve been taking meetings [with agency representatives],” she said. “I think that when I’m acting, I have to have an agency in order for me to be able to focus on my performance. It’s been difficult to have to take care of things outside of my acting like organizing my schedule and other aspects. Since I’m just starting out as an actor, I’m looking for somewhere that could give me advice.”
