Jung Suk Won Receives Sentence At First Trial For Drug Use

Actor Jung Suk Won has received his sentence at his first trial.

On October 11, the Seoul Central District Court head judge Choi Byung Chul sentenced Jung Suk Won to 10 months in prison which is suspended for two years. This means that Jung Suk Won will be in probation for two years, and will have to serve 10 months in prison if he violates the condition of the suspension during those two years. He was also ordered to pay an additional 300,000 won (approximately $264).

The court said, “Jung Suk Won’s drug use seems to be a one-time act of curiosity while traveling abroad. We considered that he was deeply reflecting on his crimes and that he didn’t have any past crimes related to drugs.”

In February, Jung Suk Won was arrested under suspicions of using drugs such as a Philopon (a form of methamphetamine) and cocaine at a bathroom in a club in Melbourne, Australia with his high school friends. He was arrested at the airport upon arriving in Korea where he admitted to the charges, took drug tests, and was held in detention during the investigation.

A source from his agency C-JeS Entertainment stated at the time, “Jung Suk Won was investigated after it was revealed that he had used drugs. Jung Suk Won feels sorry to the many people he has disappointed because of the wrong choice he made, and he is deeply regretful about causing harm to his precious family.”

Jung Suk Won debuted in 2007 through SBS’s “Shining Inheritance” and has since appeared in MBC’s “Doctor Champ” and KBS 2TV’s “Rooftop Prince.” In 2013, he wed singer Baek Ji Young, and the couple’s first daughter was born in 2017.
