ITZY Scores First No. 1 Hit With

There are some big changes in the chart this week. The top two songs are both from outside of last week’s top 10 and are first-ever top 10 hits for both artists!

JYP Entertainment’s much-anticipated new female group ITZY scored not only their first top 10 hit but their first chart-topping hit with their debut song “DALLA DALLA”! The track moved up 10 spots to take over as our new No. 1 song this week. Following the footsteps of JYPE’s famed female groups like Wonder Girls, miss A, and TWICE, ITZY certainly lives up to the big expectations with their first hit song. “DALLA DALLA” won on “Inkigayo,” “Music Core,” and “M Countdown” last week. With immediate success, ITZY is the early favorite to win the best new artist awards this year. Congratulations to ITZY!

“DALLA DALLA” is the title song of ITZY’s first single “IT’z Different.” It is a fusion groove style dance song with elements of EDM, house, and hip hop. It highlights the distinct and unique characteristics of each member and has lyrics that talk about loving and being yourself.

Moving up 13 spots to No. 2 is the first solo hit song “twit” for MAMAMOO’s Hwasa. This is a catchy dance song about a woman calling her boyfriend a twit because she means everything to him. However, she is also the twit for not treating him right. All four MAMAMOO members have now released solo hits, but so far Hwasa is the only one who has her own top 10 hit song.

Rounding out the top three is last week’s No. 1 song, Woody’s “Fire Up,” dropping two spots to No. 3.

There are two new songs in the top 10 this week. Moving up 12 spots to No. 8 is SHINEE’s Taemin. His latest solo hit “WANT” is the title track of his second mini-album of the same name. This song has an up-tempo disco beat with a bass line and a kick sound. The lyrics are about a sensuous man who is trying to seduce an alluring woman. “WANT” won on “Music Bank” and “Show Champion” last week.

Moving up four spots to No. 10 is Yoon Gun’s “Just Let Me Go.” This song was released at the end of last November. While it wasn’t too popular at first, it kept gaining ground on the chart each week. Now three months after its release, it finally moves up into the top 10. “Just Let Me Go” is a British style soul ballad with a unique vocal sound as well as piano and string arrangements. The lyrics depict the pain of parting that everyone can sympathize with.
