Idol Makes First TV Appearance Since Military Discharge On "The King Of Mask Singer"
Contestant Ieung Jieut from MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer” was an unexpected idol who many have been missing!
Following his win against TMI in the first round — from last week’s broadcast —, Ieung Jieut faced off against contestant Chang Young Sil next on the March 10 episode.
For his second performance, Ieung Jieut sang UN’s “Gift,” showcasing his smooth and melodious voice.
Spoiler
Chang Young Sil ended up winning the round, which meant Ieung Jieut had to unmask himself. He took the audience and panel by complete surprise when he revealed himself to be SS501’s Kim Hyung Jun!
The singer shared, “It’s been about two months. I was discharged from the military last December.”
As for how he came to compete on the show, Kim Hyung Jun revealed, “Around November, I started asking, ‘Please let me appear on ‘The King of Mask Singer.’ I was so ecstatic when I received the offer. I am very grateful because I feel like I was able to release all the pent-up frustration I had from the last 21 months, even if I wasn’t able to show 100 percent of what I wanted to.”
Elaborating what he meant, Kim Hyung Jun said he originally lost a lot of confidence while serving in the military.
“I had worked up until then thinking that many people would know of me,” he explained. “While in the military, I was given the grateful opportunity to perform in places like nursing homes and met many elderly people. I realized there were a lot of people who still didn’t know who I was. I did lose my confidence at first, but I think it was a good experience for me. I believe it helped regain confidence to leap forward.”
He also posted on Instagram after the show, writing, “Ieung Jieut, right? Yes, that’s right!!”
Meanwhile, Kim Hyung Jun is gearing up for his new single album “Snapshot” as well as the Latin America leg of his concert tour “Masterpiece,” which will kick off in Mexico on March 23.
