Yoon Ji Oh Responds To Lee Mi Sook's Statement On Jang Ja Yeon's Case + Says There Are More Witnesses

Yoon Ji Oh has shared her thoughts on Lee Mi Sook’s recent statement, as well as said that there are more witnesses to Jang Ja Yeon’s sexual abuse case.

As a former colleague of Jang Ja Yeon, Yoon Ji Oh witnessed her being sexually assaulted and saw her preparing documents before her death. Jang Ja Yeon died in 2009 and left behind a list of powerful figures in the business and media industries that she had been forced to entertain.

After 10 years of giving testimony to police prosecutors, Yoon Ji Oh has recently been conducting many interviews with the press and talking publicly about the case via social media and other channels. On March 26, Yoon Ji Oh appeared on the KBS1 cultural affairs program “Every Detail” (literal translation).

During the show, Yoon Ji Oh said, “The reason that I have no choice but to come out and talk about this publicly is that almost nothing has changed in the past 10 years. I decided that if I were to come out and talk publicly, then it would give a bit more power to my comments.”

Lee Mi Sook, a fellow actress under Jang Ja Yeon’s agency, initially claimed no knowledge of her in 2009. Recently, Dispatch questioned her statement in a report and Yoon Ji Oh called for her (and their former labelmate Song Sun Mi) to share her own testimony. Lee Mi Sook has since issued a statement saying that she was being cautious because she was worried that her words would be distorted, and she said she will undergo additional questioning if required.

Yoon Ji Oh said during this latest interview that Lee Mi Sook is only one of the witnesses that she is aware of.

“She is one of them,” she clarified. “Of the people that I know of, there are five more actors in total, not including Lee Mi Sook, who worked in the entertainment industry, the same industry, who were possibly closer with [Jang Ja Yeon] than I was. There are five people in addition to Lee Mi Sook who know what happened.”

Yoon Ji Oh went on to say, “I am very sorry to Lee Mi Sook; I had no choice but to mention her directly. She accepted my plea and said she would take part in the investigation, and so I’m very grateful.”

She said she is cautious about mentioning the names of other witnesses because she is aware of how big a risk it is for them. She urged them to help in the investigations even if they do so without disclosing it to the public, sharing that they can take part in the investigation with a false name and at a location that is not a public institution. She emphasized that these people have greater knowledge than her of what happened.
