Update: Prosecution Appeals Sentence For Son Seung Won's Drunk Driving Case

Updated April 18 KST:

The prosecution has also appealed to the court’s ruling of Son Seung Won’s drunk driving case.

On April 17, the prosecution reportedly sent a petition of appeal to the Seoul Central District Court. In his first trial, Son Seung Won was sentenced to one year and six months in prison despite the prosecution’s demand of a four-year sentence. Son Seung Won appealed the sentence on April 12.

With both sides appealing, the second round of trials is expected to be a tense battle between the lawyers from the opposing sides.

Son Seung Won, who recently received a sentence for violating the Road Traffic Act by driving drunk and without a license, has decided to appeal the court’s ruling.

On April 11, the Seoul Central District Court gave Son Seung Won a sentence of one year and six months in prison. The judge Hong Ki Chan said the severity of the sentence was decided in consideration of the social atmosphere that punishment for drunk driving should be more severe, especially since the establishment of the “Yoon Chang Ho Law.”

Despite the sentence being much less than the four-year sentence the prosecution had initially demanded, it was reported that Son Seung Won still filed an appeal through his legal representative on April 15.

Son Seung Won instigated a car accident last December in the neighborhood of Cheongdam. At the time of the accident, he had a blood alcohol content of 0.206 percent, which would get his license canceled. However, it was later revealed that this was the actor’s fourth time being caught driving under the influence and that his license had already been canceled on November 18, 2018.
