Soompi Awards Breaks Guinness World Records Title For “Most Used Hashtag on Twitter in 24 Hours”

K-pop fans have broken another record: a hashtag used by fans to vote in the 14th Annual Soompi Awards has officially made Twitter history, according to Guinness World Records.

From March 16 to March 17, fans of over 150 K-pop groups rallied together to vote in the second voting period of Twitter Best Fandom, one of the categories in the 14th Annual Soompi Awards. #TwitterBestFandom, which recognizes the most passionate and fastest-growing K-pop fandoms, was used 60,055,339 times during the span of the 24 hours.

This marks the first time the “Most Used Hashtag on Twitter in 24 Hours” Guinness World Records title has been shattered since 2015, when the hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon recorded 40,706,392 uses.

Soompi Awards, which began in 2005, is one of the largest and longest-running international awards honoring the best in Korean television and music, receiving 163 million votes from 190 countries in 2018. Last year’s winners can be found on Viki.

Winners for the 14th Annual Soompi Awards will be announced in May.
