Im Siwan And Sol Kyung Gu's Film "The Merciless" Confirmed For English-Language Remake

“The Merciless” is being remade!

On May 18 at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival, it was confirmed that “The Merciless”—directed by Byun Sung Hyun and starring Im Siwan and Sol Kyung Gu—will be remade in English. The remake will be a collaboration between CJ Entertainment and French-Swiss production company Pathé Films.

A representative of CJ Entertainment stated, “The European producers recognized the charm in the solid storyline of ‘The Merciless.’ We decided on an English-language remake that will target both the American and European markets.”

“The Merciless” tells the story of two men who established their bond in prison but begin to doubt and betray each other in the process of gaining influence in a crime syndicate. The film received positive reviews, particularly gaining attention for Im Siwan’s transformation in his role. It was also shown at the 70th Cannes International Film Festival in 2017 as a Midnight Screening.
