Jannabi’s Agency To Take Legal Action Against False Rumors Following Recent Controversies
Jannabi’s agency will be taking legal action against rumors and malicious comments about the band following controversies involving two of the members, Choi Jung Hoon and Yoo Young Hyun.
On May 23, an anonymous online user accused Yoo Young Hyun of being a school bully. The following day, Jannabi’s agency responded in an official statement announcing the departure of Yoo Young Hyun, who admitted to the allegations that were made against him.
Soon afterwards, media outlets reported on the band’s vocalist and leader Choi Jong Hoon, accusing him of participating in the operation of a company run by his father, who is currently under investigation for fraud and embezzlement. His father is also suspected of bribing former Vice-minister of Ministry of Justice Kim Hak Eui.
Following the reports, a number of Jannabi’s scheduled appearances in various broadcasts were canceled.
Their appearances on SBS Power FM’s “Jung So Min’s Young Street” and KBS Cool FM’s “Lee Soo Ji’s Music Plaza,” which were respectively scheduled to take place on May 27 and 28, were canceled. The band’s interview with SBS’s “Night of Real Entertainment” was edited out, and SBS MTV’s “The Stage Big Pleasure” revealed that Jannabi will no longer participate in the upcoming recording of the show, which is scheduled to take place on May 30 in Gwangju.
However, Jannabi is still set to perform at various music festivals including the Urban Music Festival 2019 and 2019 Busan International Rock Festival.
The following is the official statement from Jannabi’s agency:
Hello, this is Jannabi’s agency Peponi Music.
Our agency signed a contract with law firm Yuhan to appoint a lawyer on May 28 because online posts and comments that contain baseless rumors about the band Jannabi are continuing to spread. We plan to take legal action against [those who have made] groundless rumors and malicious slander [about Jannabi].
In addition, reports of one-way cancellations of [the band’s] scheduled appearances by broadcasting stations, which are being published by the media, are not true. We are currently discussing with program representatives to reschedule [the band’s] appearances, and we ask that you refrain from making speculations.”
Lastly, all members [of Jannabi] fully realize the gravity of the controversy involving the member Yoo Young Hun, and they plan to perform on stage with heavy hearts. We sincerely apologize for causing concern to everyone who cherishes and supports the band.
