Jung Joon Young And Choi Jong Hoon To Have Joint Trial For Sexual Assault Charges

Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon will be attending a joint trial.

On June 5, the Seoul Central District Court announced that they will combine Choi Jong Hoon’s trial for aggravated rape (refers to rape that involves two or more perpetrators) with Jung Joon Young’s trial. Mr. Kwon, who is also under suspicions of quasi-rape, will also be tried at the joint trial.

Choi Jong Hoon faces charges of two different cases of aggravated rape, once in January 2016 in Hongcheon of Gangwon Province and another in March 2016 in Daegu. He objected to his detainment by submitting a habeas corpus petition on May 29. The petition was rejected, and Choi Jong Hoon was indicted by the prosecution on June 3.

On the other hand, Jung Joon Young attended his first preparatory hearing for charges of violating the Special Act on Punishment of Sexual Crimes on May 10. During the hearing, the singer admitted to the allegations that were made against him. Since Jung Joon Young is also under suspicions of aggravated assault along with Choi Jong Hoon, Jung Joon Young’s lawyers requested for a joint trial.

Upon approving the request for a joint trial, the court postponed Jung Joon Young’s second preparatory hearing to June 27. While the defendants are not required to attend preparatory hearings, if Jung Joon Young and Choi Jong Hoon decide to attend the hearing on June 27, they will be seeing each other at court for the first time since their detainments.
