Choi Jong Hoon’s habeas corpus petition has been rejected.

According to the courts on May 31, the Seoul Central District Court held a hearing on Choi Jong Hoon’s habeas corpus petition on May 29 and judge Lee Il Yeom has rejected it. The habeas corpus petition is a system in which an incarcerated individual can file a petition objecting to their detainment and asking the courts to review their case.

By rejecting Choi Jong Hoon’s petition, the courts have reconfirmed that the pretrial detention warrant against him is still valid. On May 9, the warrant, which allows for a suspect to be detained for longer than 48 hours, was issued for Choi Jong Hoon as he faces charges of multiple-perpetrator sexual assault. According to the judge, “The court recognizes the criminal charges, and there are clear concerns of tampering of evidence.”

Choi Jong Hoon is currently facing charges of sexual assault on two cases, once in January 2016 in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province and once in March 2016 in Daegu, along with Jung Joon Young and others.
