Jeon Somi Talks About Solo Debut Amid YG Controversies + I.O.I's Reported Reunion

Jeon Somi has officially made her solo debut!

The singer held a showcase for the release of her first solo single “Birthday” today.

She shared her thoughts on her debut saying “I’m greeting the public in three years. I’m very nervous.”

Jeon Somi also talked about her new agency and said, “I moved from JYP Entertainment to YG The Black Label. The style for songs and work is different.”

When asked about the various controversies surrounding YG Entertainment, Jeon Somi replied, “I wasn’t swayed and worked hard to prepare in my own way.”

Teddy, head of The Black Label, created “Birthday” with Jeon Somi participating in composing. Jeon Somi also created self-composed track “Outta My Head” for her solo debut album.

Jeon Somi explained, “‘Birthday’ is the day of birth. It also has the meaning as the day I was reborn as a solo singer. ‘Outta My Head’ is my self-composed song. I didn’t have any idea of writing lyrics and composing, but my company producers helped me. I experienced the pain of creating for the first time.”

Following news of I.O.I reportedly reuniting with nine members, Jeon Somi was asked about it during her showcase. She answered, “I think nothing definite has been decided yet. I also don’t know anything for certain.”

Jeon Somi’s solo debut single will be released today at 6 p.m. KST.
