Attention Shifts To YG Artists' Remaining Contract Periods Amidst Continued Controversies

With YG Entertainment facing many controversies, interest has shifted to artists who are still signed on with the agency.

In March, YG Entertainment terminated their contract with Seungri, who left BIGBANG and the agency after the Burning Sun controversy broke out. Most recently, they terminated their contract with B.I on June 12 as he left iKON after a report from Dispatch claimed he had tried to purchase marijuana and LSD. With founder Yang Hyun Suk also under suspicion of tax evasion and destroying evidence, attention has turned to other artists in the agency and how long they have left on their contracts.

Other YG artists like Lee Hi, Akdong Musician, and WINNER are said to still have quite some time left on their exclusive contracts with YG Entertainment.

For Lee Hi, though she made her debut in 2012 with the digital single “1, 2, 3, 4,” she signed her contract later in July 2013. Her contract with YG Entertainment is 10 years long, so she still has years left to go as it is set to end in 2023.

Akdong Musician, the sibling duo who made their debut in April 2014, signed a seven-year contract with YG Entertainment. As the start date of their contract was their debut date, their contract will end in April 2021.

WINNER recently mentioned in an interview during their comeback, “We still have a lot of time left (on our contracts) to be talking about contract renewals.” Though it is not clear how long their contract is, it appears WINNER will be staying with YG Entertainment for the time being.
