ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo And Shin Se Kyung Share Their Thoughts On Their Upcoming Historical Drama

ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo and Shin Se Kyung recently participated in a pictorial for the fashion magazine Singles.

The two are starring together in MBC’s upcoming drama “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung.” Cha Eun Woo plays a young prince who has been single all his life but is secretly a wildly popular romance novelist, while Shin Se Kyung plays an aspiring palace historian who dreams of an equal society.

In the interview that accompanied the pictorial, Shin Se Kyung, who has starred in several historical dramas throughout her career, shared why she chose this drama as her next project. She said, “The script was very refreshing and tightly written. Not only the characters, but the overall balance of the story flowed well. The script brought out the uniqueness in each character, but also created a good ensemble cast.”

She also mentioned the kind of characters she was attracted to, saying, “Charlize Theron’s acting in ‘Monster’ really left an impression on me. I really liked the way she approached that role as an actress. That’s why I am attracted to female characters who aren’t typical.”

Unlike Shin Se Kyung, “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” is Cha Eun Woo’s first historical drama. He shared that he lost 2 kilograms (about 4.4 pounds) for the role and said of his character, “He lives a secluded life, so he’s awkward about everything. I really want to show people how he matures after meeting Goo Hae Ryung and going through a lot of different experiences. Because Lee Rim [character name] is cute and naive, I was inspired by my younger brother and ASTRO’s youngest member, Sanha. There are times when things don’t go as planned on set, so I ask the director and other crew members. Sung Ji Roo also helps me out a lot.”

He also added that his mother used to put up famous quotes around the house when he was a kid and picked two of them as his current mottoes: “a person who knows how to be grateful is truly happy” and “know thyself.” He said, “I want to go through a lot of different experiences and help others have faith in me.”

“Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” premieres on July 17. Check out some teaser photos here!
