Update: Police Request Pretrial Detention Warrant For Kang Ji Hwan On Sexual Assault Allegations
Updated July 11 KST:
The Gwangju Police Station of Gyeonggi Province revealed on July 11 that a pretrial detention warrant for Kang Ji Hwan has been requested to the prosecution.
A pretrial detention warrant allows for a suspect to be detained for longer than 48 hours. It is granted if the court rules that there is potential for a suspect to flee or destroy evidence.
The prosecution will now decide whether or not to file the pretrial detention warrant, and the court will make a judgment on the validity of the warrant.
Actor Kang Ji Hwan has completed his second round of police questioning at the Bundang Police Station in Seongnam.
On July 10, Kang Ji Hwan underwent three hours of questioning by the police from 6 to 9 p.m. KST regarding the allegations of sexual assault brought against him by two female members of his staff. Maintaining his position from his first round of questioning, the actor reportedly stated, “Because I was drunk, I don’t remember anything at all.”
According to the police, a decision will be made regarding their application for a pretrial detention warrant for Kang Ji Hwan on the morning of July 11.
Earlier this week, following Kang Ji Hwan’s arrest on charges of sexual assault, his agency Huayi Brothers Korea announced that he would be canceling all scheduled activities in order to cooperate with police investigations. The actor’s currently-airing drama “Joseon Survival” also announced that it would be canceling this week’s episode and would not be airing any reruns.
