Soccer-Loving Enlisted Male Idols Who Are Probably Showing Off Their Skills In The Military
While soccer is loved globally, there are certain Korean stars who are well-known for their undying love of the sport. Some were previous players and many have previously showcased their athletic talents on various programs. Check out these stars who most likely took their soccer skills to the military and are still enjoying the sport while enlisted!
This idol is well-known within both his agency and the entertainment industry for being an avid soccer fan. During high school, he even formed a soccer club with his friends! His fellow EXO members even refer to him as “Xi-Messi,” combining his name with the legendary soccer player Lionel Messi. In 2013, he played alongside Park Ji Sung for team Korea in the star’s “Asian Dream Cup.” Additionally in 2014, Xiumin, with fellow EXO member Kai, was made an honorary member of the Korean Football Association (KFA), the governing body of soccer in Korea.
Highlight’s Yoon Doojoon
Doojoon enjoyed soccer so much from a young age that he even considered attending a sport university. However, he was sidelined with an injury and thankfully for us, became an idol instead. He’s a well-known fan of FC Barcelona and is a midfielder for his own team FC MEN, which is a celebrity all-star subunit of the South Korean football club Suwon Bluewings. In 2014, Doojoon became an honorary ambassador for the Korea Football Association’s K-League and shared, “I believe K-League must develop so that the future of soccer in Korea can be bright.”
Highlight’s Lee Gikwang
Gikwang is not only Doojoon’s fellow Highlight member, but also FC MEN teammate. In 2018, he was the host of soccer variety show “God of Soccer,” showcasing his extensive knowledge and love of the sport. Gikwang’s love for soccer runs so deep that his fans are hilariously known to occasionally ponder, “Am I a fan of a singer or a soccer player?”
Soccer runs in Minho’s blood, as his father is both a former professional soccer player and coach. Despite this, his father was actually against Minho’s childhood dream to become a soccer player. After debuting, he now enjoys the sport as a hobby. Minho occasionally flies overseas to catch a game of soccer and has even gone on vacations focused on soccer while filming his own reality show. Following his enlistment, Minho is continuously living his passion as a member of his army unit’s soccer team.
As called by his fellow VIXX members, “Jung-Soccer” was even a member of Korea’s National Youth Soccer Team from 2003 to 2007. He is often seen showcasing his abilities at the “Idol Star Athletics Championships” and is one of the most notable soccer fans among male idols.
