BTOB's Yook Sungjae Announces Military Enlistment Date

BTOB’s Yook Sungjae has announced that he is enlisting in mandatory military service this month.

On May 3, he posted the following statement on Instagram.

Hello, this is Sungjae. First, thank you very, very much to all the Melodies who celebrated my birthday! (I saw all the social media posts, advertisements, and events!)

I didn’t know how to begin saying this so I thought about it for a long time. But since I was too far from any deep thoughts or concerns, I decided that the right thing was to tell you as soon as possible.

You will be very surprised, but I have decided to enlist in the military on May 11!

There will be people who are surprised at this sudden information, as well as people who are concerned, but because of how much love I’ve received until now from Melodies, I have the confidence that I will receive love and be happy and healthy no matter where I am! I’m not worried! I will be able to go with a comfortable mindset.

Because of the continuous enlistment of the BTOB members, there will inevitably be a hiatus, but since Melodies are waiting for us, we will gain strength in thinking of the day we will meet again. There isn’t a lot of time left, but I will definitely communicate with Melodies through a live broadcast, and the other hyungs will be out soon, and ‘Mystic Pop-Up Bar’ will premiere soon, so please be patient and wait. The day that BTOB and Melodies meet again will arrive soon!

A source from Cube Entertainment confirmed to News1 that Yook Sungjae would be enlisting as an active-duty soldier on May 11 and that the time and location of his enlistment would not be made public.

In 2018, leader Eunkwang was the first BTOB member to enlist in the military, followed shortly by Changsub and Minhyuk. Eunkwang was discharged last month according to the military’s COVID-19 protocol. Back in March, Yook Sungjae stepped down from his variety program “Master in the House” and mentioned that he wanted to take some time off before his military enlistment. He will be the fourth BTOB member to enlist in the military.
