Watch: BTOB's Yook Sungjae, Hwang Jung Eum, And Choi Won Young Talk About Their Characters And Experiences Filming

The cast of the upcoming JTBC drama “Mystic Pop-Up Bar” talked about their characters in a recent interview!

“Mystic Pop-Up Bar” is based on a popular webtoon and tells the story of a mysterious pojangmacha (an outdoor drinking establishment) run by the ill-tempered Wol Joo (Hwang Jung Eum), the innocent part-time employee Han Kang Bae (BTOB’s Yook Sungjae), and former afterlife detective Chief Gwi (Choi Won Young). Together, they visit customers in their dreams to help resolve their problems.

While introducing their characters, Hwang Jung Eum shares that Wol Joo is a character she’s never seen the likes of before. She explains, “Although Wol Joo seems strong on the outside, she has a lot of affection for people on the inside.” Yook Sungjae picks his character’s innocence and ability to relate to others as Han Kang Bae’s strongest trait, and Choi Won Young shares that his character will often bicker with Wol Joo but act as her helpful secretary at the same time.

On her similarities with her character, Hwang Jung Eum explains that she was surprised to find out how similar she was to Wol Joo. She shares, “While acting as Wol Joo, I said, ‘Wol Joo is like me.’ She uses phrases I normally use, and we have a lot of similarities.” On the other hand, Yook Sungjae says, “I got the feeling that my character is somewhat the opposite of me. I thought I was innocent, but there were many difficult aspects while acting,” adding that he had more of a “tsundere” (outwardly cold but actually warm and caring) personality.

For the interview, the actors also suggested different snacks to eat for certain life circumstances. When asked what snack they would suggest to someone whose significant other cheated on them with their friend, Hwang Jung Eum suggests ordering all different kinds of snacks in order to fight away the pain with food. She adds, “Come to our pojangmacha, I’ll make you everything.”

Hwang Jung Eum also talks about gradually getting used to filming with computer graphics in mind while Yook Sungjae reveals that he did his best to stick to the script to portray his character rather than relying on the original webtoon. Finally, the cast wrap up the interview by expressing their hopes for viewers to watch and support the drama.
