Main Vocalist Of Rising Girl Group Charms The Audience On “The King Of Mask Singer”
On the June 14 episode of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” a diverse group of challengers took on the quest for the throne.
The first match-up of Round 1 was between “Goddess Arrival” and “Shopping Spree,” who sang a duet cover of Red Velvet’s “Psycho.”
Red Velvet’s Seulgi said, “This song is difficult even with five members. I think the mixture of voices gives it a unique charm.” Solji added, “The combination of the two singers was so good, it was enjoyable to listen to it.”
“The King of Mask Singer” is currently filmed without an audience due to social distancing restrictions in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the results are determined by votes from the panelists. In this match-up, “Shopping Spree” advanced with a one-vote difference to the next round.
Singing a cover of “It Was Love” (composed by Zico, sung by f(x)’s Luna), “Goddess Arrival” unmasked herself to reveal her identity as GWSN’s Lena.
MC Kim Sung Joo noted that Lena’s mother was former Miss Korea contestant and singer Lee Eun Jeo, who was the only female vocalist to have sung a song by the late producer Lee Young Hoon.
Lena said, “My mother liked to sing with me since I was little, so I naturally turned in this direction as well. This is a show that I watched regularly before my debut, so I was nervous to stand on this stage myself. The members sent me a lot of support, so I don’t know how I’ll tell them that I was eliminated.”
Lena and Seoryoung are the main vocalists of GWSN, a seven-member girl group who made their debut in 2018. The group last made a comeback in April with the mini album “The Keys” and title track “Bazooka!”
