New Girl Group Weeekly Talks About Receiving Support From Labelmates Apink, Goals For Debut, And More

On June 30, Play M Entertainment’s new girl group, Weeekly, held a showcase for the release of their debut album “We Are” and title track “Tag Me (@Me).”

Weeekly has garnered attention for being Play M Entertainment’s first new girl group in almost 10 years. Lee Soojin said, “It feels like a dream to be at this showcase. It wasn’t that long ago when I didn’t know that I would be doing a showcase in a big place like this. I trained for a long time for this moment but I am happy to be standing here with the other members.”

Jiyoon said, “We will work hard to show a diverse but approachable image that matches our group name. We want to brighten everyone’s week. We want to show fun music and performances that will bring a small smile to people in the midst of their everyday lives.”

Monday said, “The average age of our group is 17. I think that that kind of bright energy is our trademark. However, our skills are not to be measured by our age.”

Zoa talked about the advice that they had gotten from their senior labelmates Apink. “We filmed a reality show before our debut, and Apink came on the second episode,” she said. “During filming and during breaks, they would give us advice now and then and cheered us on.”

Jihan said, “We’re so grateful for their advice and words of support.” Monday, who has been a fan of Apink for a long time, said, “It’s an honor just to be able to debut as Apink’s juniors. I will work hard in order to continue their amazing legacy.” Jiyoon added, “Apink is famous for their great teamwork, so we want to continue that legacy and be known as a group with great teamwork.”

Finally, Lee Soojin said, “As rookies, our goal is to let people know who we are through diverse promotions. We’d be happy if we got good results. It would be nice if we could get the dream of all rookies, the Rookie of the Year award. Many amazing senior artists appear at the end-of-year awards ceremonies, so we would like to stand on that stage as well.”

Weeekly was scheduled to hold a V Live showcase for fans at 8 p.m. KST. However, Play M Entertainment announced that the event was being canceled due to a fire in a nearby building and that the staff and artists were quickly evacuated.
