Members of the cast and production team for the international sensation “Parasite” have been invited to join the Academy roster!

It’s been announced that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited 819 artists and executives from 68 countries to join this year.

The list of invitees features “Parasite” stars Choi Woo Shik, Park So Dam, Jang Hye Jin, Jo Yeo Jeong, and Lee Jung Eun. Other names on the list include the film’s producer Kwak Sin Ae, writer Han Jin Won, editor Yang Jin Mo, and more.

Director Bong Joon Ho and actor Song Kang Ho already became members of the Academy in 2015.

In addition, invitees to the Academy this year include Yi Seung Jun, the director of the documentary “In the Absence” about the Sewol ferry; and Disney animation supervisor Lee Hyun Min, who has worked on films including “Frozen” and “Moana.”

Back in 2016, the Academy shared its aim to double the number of women and “underrepresented ethnic/racial communities” among its membership by 2020. It’s now achieved this goal, with the incoming class comprised of 45 percent women, 36 percent underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49 percent international.

There are around 40 current Korean members of the Academy, including actors such as Lee Byung Hun, Bae Doona, Ha Jung Woo, Jo Jin Woong, Choi Min Sik, and Kim Min Hee.

The 2019 film “Parasite” became a smash hit around the world, achieving both box office success and critical acclaim. It dominated the Oscars this year, grabbing four trophies including Best Picture at the February ceremony.
