Watch: Stray Kids' I.N And PENTAGON's Hui And Yeo One Audition For Trot Survival Program

More idols have auditioned for the new trot survival program “Favorite Entertainment”!

MBC’s “Favorite Entertainment” is a music variety program that aims to create a top trot boy group. Contestants include idols, former vocalists, and other singers who will be selected by trot singer Jang Yoon Jung, comedian Kim Shin Young, and Super Junior‘s Leeteuk.

On the July 18 broadcast of the show, the judges saw auditions by Stray Kids’ I.N and PENTAGON’s Hui and Yeo One. For I.N’s audition, he performed the classic song “Camellia Lady” by Lee Mi Ja, impressing the judges with his excellent trot interpretation despite his young age.

Mentioning that he was only born in 2001, the judges asked how he had gotten into trot despite being so young. I.N answered, “When I was younger, I would go to church and I would always sing trot songs at our talent shows.”

Jang Yoon Jung praised the Stray Kids member by saying, “It would have been easier for you to simply pick an easy semi-trot song [for your audition], but the fact that you picked a traditional trot song with ‘Camellia Lady’ makes me want to give you bonus points. I think it really captured your genuine love for trot.”

Leeteuk jumped in to recommend I.N as a perfect fit for their trot group, pointing out that they would need someone to fulfill the maknae (youngest member) role. In order to up his appeal to the judges, I.N then performed a dance cover of BTS‘s “Boy With Luv” and EXO‘s “Love Shot.”

PENTAGON’s Yeo One also greeted the judges by showcasing a new side of himself, covering Park Sang Chul’s “Hwang Jin Yi.”

Meanwhile, fellow PENTAGON member Hui performed “I Only Know Love” by Shim Soo Bong for his audition.

Following his performance, Hui received compliments for his confidence and having his own singing style, as well as his songwriting ability. Kim Shin Young asked him, “You weren’t pushed to do this, right?” Hui quickly replied, “I actually asked my agency to push me.”

He continued, “Also, my mom always tells me, ‘The songs you make are so good, but I can’t sing along to them.’ I’ve come out here [on the show] for my mom.”

Leeteuk later mentioned Yeo One, asking if the two were competing to see which of them would make the trot group. Hui jokingly shared, “It’d be nice if we made it together, but while we’re here, it’d be nice if I did a little bit better.” When asked if he would give up his spot for Yeo One, Hui hilariously answered, “I don’t think I could.”

Hui also prepared a dance performance to Rain’s viral hit “Gang.” Before showing off his impressive dancing skills, he commented, “When I was practicing, I wanted to show off a very wild and beast-like image, but me doing it just made it cute.”

The latest episode of “Favorite Entertainment” will soon be available with English subtitles on Viki. In the meantime, catch up on last week’s episode below!
