Highlight’s Son Dongwoon is back from serving in the military!

On December 8, a source from his agency Around Us Entertainment confirmed, “Son Dongwoon finished his duty of one year and seven months as a conscripted policeman, and he has been discharged from the military today.”

Son Dongwoon was discharged while on his final leave without returning to the military base in accordance with the COVID-19 protocol.

Through his agency, Son Dongwoon shared, “Everyone has to fulfill their military duties, so it was natural that I went. I honestly don’t feel anything special because I was discharged since time had passed. However, I realized that the ordinary life I’ve enjoyed is precious, so I want to fill my everyday life with only the work I enjoy and the people I like.”

In a video message marking his discharge from the military, Son Dongwoon shared, “Doesn’t it feel as if time has passed by so fast? It probably only felt that way to you all. I think time passed the same for me. During the year and seven months, I had times of difficulty and times of enjoyment, and after living day by day like that, I’ve finally been discharged.”

The Highlight member also talked about how he felt awkward, nervous, and excited to be on camera for the first time in a while. He shared, “With my discharge, all Highlight members have served in the military. I believe that everyone spent time healthily, and I’ve also returned healthily, so I hope we make happy and enjoyable moments in the future.”

Son Dongwoon enlisted in the military as a conscripted policeman on May 9. With Son Dongwoon’s discharge from the military, all Highlight members have completed their mandatory military service. Lee Gikwang was discharged in November, Yoon Doojoon was released earlier this year in April, and Yang Yoseob returned in August from his military service as well.

On December 8 at 8 p.m. KST, Son Dongwoon will have his first meeting with his fans through Around Us Entertainment’s official V LIVE channel. During the broadcast, the artist will share his gratitude with fans who have waited for him and reveal his upcoming promotional plans.
