Kim Sejeong Opens Up About Her Love Life + Why She's Afraid Of Relationships

On the latest episode of “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook,” Kim Sejeong got honest about her love life—and her fears.

During the April 2 broadcast of the KBS music talk show, Kim Sejeong made a guest appearance to promote her new mini album “I’M” and its title track “Warning.”

As Kim Sejeong personally composed all of the songs on the new mini album, host Yoo Hee Yeol asked her to choose the one song that she felt was the most personal expression of her true self: “the one song that really unmasks Kim Sejeong and captures her barest face.”

“I think it’s ‘Maybe I Am,'” replied Kim Sejeong. “It’s a song about a girl who feels afraid of love. And I, too, am the type who gets really scared when it comes to love or personal relationships in my actual life.”

“Because I tend to get so afraid, when I look back [on my love life], I realize that I either got scared from the very start,” she continued, “or because I started overthinking, I only opened up to a certain extent, and I never allowed myself to get too close [to the other person].”

Kim Sejeong went on, “Honestly, when it comes to love or music, you have to really pour your entire soul into it; otherwise, you won’t be able to develop a sincere relationship. But because I don’t have enough courage, I’ve never been able to achieve that.”

When Yoo Hee Yeol asked why she was so afraid of relationships, Kim Sejeong confessed, “Because you get hurt. And because I have this fixed idea that no relationship will last forever. Whenever I date [someone], I keep thinking, ‘Well, it’s not like I’m going to marry this guy anyway. We’re going to break up anyway.'”

Yoo Hee Yeol then urged her to be braver in her love life, and Kim Sejeong lamented, “Because I don’t have that kind of experience with serious relationships, it’s really hard when I write songs. I want to write breakup songs and heartbreaking love songs, but I can’t think of any ideas.”

Yoo Hee Yeol responded by joking, “This is a big problem. We need to talk about this later. This isn’t the time to be writing songs and practicing. This is no time to be working out. You need to date someone right away. After getting into a passionate romance and experiencing major heartbreak, I think you’ll be able to write a legendary song.”
