JBJ95 Files Lawsuit To Terminate Contracts With Their Agency

JBJ95 has taken legal action in an attempt to terminate their contracts with their agency, Star Road Entertainment.

On April 14, it was reported that JBJ95 had sent a certification of contents requesting the termination of their contract with Star Road Entertainment in September of last year.

JBJ95 claimed that Star Road Entertainment had not provided them with their own manager for their promotions, forcing them to temporarily hire an out-of-company manager every time they had activities. The members also alleged that they had to take care of their own management, from hiring their own stylists to personally scheduling their appointments with hairstylists and makeup artists.

According to JBJ95, Star Road Entertainment is currently embroiled in lawsuits over unpaid employee wages, as well as unpaid fees to concert organizers. As all of the agency’s employees have allegedly left the company, JBJ95 asserted that Star Road Entertainment is currently unable to support or manage the group.

JBJ95 also stated that their agency had been promising for over three months to produce YouTube and TikTok content for the duo, but showed no sign of following through. Therefore, aside from broadcasts on Naver’s V Live, the group has currently ceased all activities.

Finally, JBJ95 alleged that Star Road Entertainment had not been transparent about financial matters. As an example, they claimed that the financial statements they received from the agency had been incomplete and had left out an advance payment from their album distributor.

When JBJ95 asked the company to remedy the situation, Star Road Entertainment reportedly responded by requesting compensation for damages.

“We apologize for giving people cause for concern during this difficult time when many people are struggling due to COVID-19,” stated JBJ95. “We sincerely thank all of our fans, who made it possible for JBJ95 to exist and who have sent us their love and support, as well as our staff, who have always been a huge source of strength for us. We hope that we will be able to greet you as more mature versions of ourselves in the future.”

Meanwhile, Star Road Entertainment commented, “It’s truly regrettable that this kind of lawsuit was filed when the company is in a difficult situation.” Responding to JBJ95’s specific claims, the agency continued, “While they didn’t have their own specific manager in charge of them, there was always a manager in the agency, and actually, because of the employees leaving the company, executives even stepped forward to manage JBJ95’s schedule.”

“When one of the members was shooting a movie, the film studio prepared [hair and makeup] staff, but the member turned them down and personally hired his own staff,” stated Star Road Entertainment. “The company paid for these expenses, and we have receipts.”

The agency went on, “In regard to mentioning compensation for damages and penalties, it was something that was mentioned between our legal representatives after we received the certification of contents [requesting contract termination] from the JBJ95 members, in the process of sending evidence that proved their claims false.”

“In order to overcome this difficult time for our agency, we actually booked gigs for JBJ95, but the members are actually the ones rejecting them,” claimed Star Road Entertainment. “It’s outrageous that they filed a lawsuit using the excuse that the company is struggling [financially].”

JBJ95 is a duo consisting of Kenta and Kim Sang Gyun, who appeared together on Mnet’s “Produce 101 Season 2” in 2017. After promoting together in the project group JBJ, they officially made their debut as a permanent duo in October 2018.
