Get ready for an epic cover battle on the next episode of Mnet’s “Kingdom: Legendary War”!
On April 15, the idol competition show aired a sneak peek of its upcoming episode, which will mark the beginning of a brand-new round. For the second official round of competition, the “Kingdom” contestants will be going head-to-head with covers of each other’s songs.
The preview begins with hosts TVXQ announcing the theme of the new round and asking ATEEZ, who took first place in the contestants’ votes and expert judges’ evaluations in Round 1, to choose the group with whom they want to swap songs.
The clip goes on to show glimpses of the spectacular performances by the six competing groups, as well as the contestants’ awestruck reactions. Watching THE BOYZ perform, one contestant remarks in voice-over, “They reinterpreted the song in THE BOYZ’s own style.” BTOB’s Minhyuk comments with a smile, “Why are they all so handsome?” and ATEEZ’s Hongjoong chimes in, “They’re cool.”
Stray Kids also elicits reactions of amazement from their fellow competitors, with one idol pointing out, “They look insanely cool,” and another exclaiming, “He’s being dragged away!” Watching BTOB’s cover, THE BOYZ’s Juyeon remarks, “This is an entirely different song [from the original],” while Hongjoong enthuses, “I think I’m going to listen to this version when the song is released online.” When Minhyuk later rips his shirt, SF9’s Jaeyoon jokes, “Sunbae [senior colleague], let’s rip our shirts together.”
During ATEEZ’s performance, one idol notes, “Their concept is very clear,” and Stray Kids’ Han says in awe, “This is totally crazy, for real.” Later, SF9’s Rowoon joins his group on stage after sitting out the first two performances, prompting one contestant to happily exclaim, “It’s Rowoon!” iKON’s Donghyuk responds to the theatrical fighting by observing, “It’s like [the film] ‘New World‘!” and Chanwoo agrees, “It’s like a movie.”
Finally, iKON’s cover leads SF9’s Taeyong to remark, “I feel like they’re releasing an entirely new song,” while ATEEZ’s Yunho gets excited by a set piece rising from the stage in the middle of their performance.
The next episode of “Kingdom” will air on April 22 at 7:50 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the new preview below!
