BTS Appointed As Special Presidential Envoys For South Korea + To Attend UN General Assembly In New York

South Korea’s president Moon Jae In appointed BTS as special envoys to represent the country!

On the morning of July 21, Blue House spokesperson Park Kyung Mi revealed through a briefing, “President Moon Jae In has appointed BTS as a ‘Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture’ to lead the global agenda for future generations such as sustainable growth and to expand South Korea’s diplomatic power to match its elevated status in the international community.”

It was explained that the appointment of BTS as special envoys is part of the government’s public diplomacy initiatives to unite the diplomatic capacities of the citizens and thereby expand the nation’s diplomatic horizons. By collaborating with civilian experts who promote actively on the global stage, the government aims to strengthen the nation’s image as one that leads global discussions.

After BTS’s “Butter” topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for a record-breaking seven straight weeks, the group’s latest hit “Permission to Dance” replaced “Butter” as the No. 1 song on the chart this week. Mentioning this feat, the Blue House shared that the song’s message and the dance moves that incorporate sign language align with South Korea’s determination to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic through solidarity and cooperation with the rest of the world.

BTS will be attending the 75th United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States in September, in addition to other major international conferences, to spread a message of comfort and hope to teenagers all over the world. They will also be taking part in promotions to help solve global challenges related to the environment, poverty, discrimination, and more.

This will be BTS’s third time attending the UN General Assembly. In 2018, BTS gave an address at the launch ceremony of UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited at the 73rd UN General Assembly, and they were invited to speak at the high level meeting of the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security last September.

Congratulations to BTS!
