BTS's "Butter" Overtakes Olivia Rodrigo's Record On Billboard's Hot 100 For Longest-Running No. 1 Song Of 2021
BTS’s “Butter” has continued its reign over Billboard’s Hot 100!
On August 2 local time, Billboard officially announced that BTS’s hit single “Butter” had remained No. 1 on its famous Hot 100 chart—its weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the United States—for the ninth non-consecutive week.
Notably, the impressive nine-week run of “Butter” was only interrupted for one week by BTS’s own song “Permission to Dance,” meaning that BTS has now topped the Hot 100 for 10 consecutive weeks.
With this latest achievement, “Butter” has now overtaken the Hot 100 record set by Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” for the longest-running No. 1 hit of 2021. (“Drivers License” topped the chart for eight weeks back in January to March of this year.)
“Butter” also successfully remained the top-selling song of the week. According to MRC Data (formerly Nielsen Music), the song racked up 30.5 million radio airplay audience impressions, 8.1 million streams, and 112,900 downloads, meaning that it held onto its spot at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart for the ninth non-consecutive week.
Additionally, “Butter” held steady at No. 21 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart and came in at No. 44 on the Streaming Songs chart for the week ending on August 7.
Meanwhile, “Permission to Dance” also continued to perform well on the Billboard charts. In addition to charting at No. 9 on the Hot 100, the song successfully maintained its position at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart this week.
Congratulations to BTS!
