3 Reasons To Look Forward To Minah And Kwon Hwa Woon's New Romance Drama

Get ready for a unique new love story!

MBC’s “Check Out the Event” is an upcoming romance drama about two ex-lovers who win a couples trip in a lottery that they entered before breaking up. In order to go on the trip, they pretend to still be together as they travel to Jeju Island with two other couples.

Girl’s Day’s Minah will star in the drama as Ha Song Yi, a coordinator at a botanical garden who goes through a rough patch after breaking up with her longtime boyfriend, while Kwon Hwa Woon will star as her ex Park Do Kyum, the secretly soft-hearted leader and vocalist of an indie band. An Woo Yeon will play their tour guide Seo Ji Kang, who winds up developing feelings for Ha Song Yi over the course of the trip.

With the drama’s premiere just one week away, here are three reasons to look forward to the show:

1. A realistic take on romance and breakups

In contrast to the idealistic, picture-perfect love stories depicted in many romance dramas, “Check Out the Event” will feature a more realistic and immensely relatable view of relationships. Instead of starting with the butterflies that accompany a budding romance, the drama’s story begins with the harsh reality of an ordinary breakup.

After Park Do Kyum catches Ha Song Yi off guard by unexpectedly dumping her, the heartbroken Ha Song Yi is unable to accept that their relationship is over. When they happen to win a free couples trip, she sees it as an opportunity to win him back.

As viewers watch Ha Song Yi endure the aftermath of her breakup, they will undoubtedly be able to relate to her pain, emotional turmoil, and determination to get back together with her ex.

2. The stories of the other couples

Although each of the three couples on the trip seem to have perfect relationships on the surface, all of them are secretly facing their own problems.

YouTuber couple Song Jong Ho (played by UP10TION’s Lee Jin Hyuk) and Noh Hyo Jung (played by Nam Kyu Hee), who are both dancers, are struggling with the fact that one of them seems to be way more into their relationship than the other.

Meanwhile, Hyun Kyung Mi (played by Kim Young Sun) and Kang Jae Nam (played by Kim Hee Chang), the only married couple on the trip, feel more apologetic to one another than they feel in love.

All three couples take off for Jeju Island with a lot of pent-up feelings—and only time will tell how their trip will change the course of their relationships.

3. A virtual trip to Jeju Island

“Check Out the Event” is set on gorgeous Jeju Island, and the picturesque scenery combined with the attractive cast will provide plenty of eye candy throughout the show.

Not only will the drama tell an entertaining story, but the stunning backdrop will give viewers the chance to vicariously enjoy a scenic vacation to one of Korea’s most beautiful spots.

“Check Out the Event” premieres on August 14 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available with subtitles on Viki.
