THE BOYZ Talks About Going Back To A Refreshing Concept, Songwriting, And Their Experience On

On August 9, THE BOYZ held an online media showcase for the release of their sixth mini album, “THRILL-ING.”

THE BOYZ shared, “We’ve been running hard, but we feel more nervous and excited because it’s our first comeback in a year. It’s our first album after the end of Mnet’s ‘Kingdom: Legendary War,’ so we feel a sense of pressure, but we’re more excited about showing how much we’ve grown and showing a new side of us. We’re curious about what people will think about our new image.”

Hyunjae said, “Our new title track, ‘THRILL RIDE,’ is a hip hop song with a melody that pops. You’ll be able to feel the new and thrilling appeal of THE BOYZ.” Jacob added, “There were lots of great candidates for the title track, so we had a happy time choosing. ‘THRILL RIDE’ stuck in our ears and seemed really suitable for the summer. We did a lot of story-based performances for ‘Kingdom,’ and this time we wanted to do something cool and refreshing.”

Ju Haknyeon said, “We thought that it was time for THE BOYZ to carve out a brand new color. We thought about what it would be like to go back to the refreshing vibe of our debut and carry out that concept as we are now. We wanted to convey the feeling of boys who are good at both music and performance.”

Sunwoo, Eric, and Q participated in writing lyrics for the songs on the album. Q said, “I have a lot of interest in songwriting and have been trying it out for a while now, and I’m grateful that people looked kindly on my efforts. It did feel a little strange. I want to be an artist that shows diverse growth in future, so please look forward to it.”

Sunwoo said, “Normally I write lyrics according to what I visualized on the MR, but this time the actual theme was ready in advance. I participated by contributing to the development of ideas within that theme, and it was a lot easier. I’m grateful whenever my lyrics are chosen. It was a good experience.” Eric said, “I’m grateful and honored that two of the songs on the album contain my lyrics. I’m the type to write based on my imagination, and whenever I think of things, I jot them down and work on them in the studio. It would be a lie to say I’m satisfied. In the next album, I’ll work harder for my own satisfaction.”

About their experience on “Kingdom,” Sunwoo said, “When we watched the other groups perform, we could tell that each had their own worldview and strong points. We had to think about what THE BOYZ’s strong points and color were and work to bring them to life. It naturally improved our teamwork and respect for each other.” He added, “I think the program helped us learn more about ourselves. There are some regrets about the competition, but we also gained a sense of self-confidence and trust.” Younghoon added, “Through ‘Kingdom,’ we realized that we wanted to greet our fans with new performances.”
