5 Ways (G)I-DLE's Jeon Soyeon Showcased Her Incredible Talents

Jeon Soyeon is an idol, rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer who has been blessing fans all over the world with her multifaceted talents since 2016. Ever since her survival show days, the versatile artist keeps thriving in everything she does: from her fiery solo debut and captivating group debut with (G)I-DLE, all the way to her rich collaborations. The sky is the limit for Soyeon. Her musical influences are just as colorful, with her drawing inspiration from animation, books, dramas, and other musical styles.

To delve into her outstanding journey thus far, here is a rundown of five ways Jeon Soyeon showcased her talents – and confidently excelled at it.

1. As a survival show finalist

Survival shows are a golden opportunity for trainees to make a name for themselves. Their participation can actually pave the way for their eventual career as idols, and some even become household names. Naturally, all eyes were on Soyeon as she represented Cube Entertainment in the first season of “Produce 101,” where she rose in popularity and remained on the show until the very final episode where she almost made it as an I.O.I member. She later participated in the third season of “Unpretty Rapstar” and finished as the second runner-up with two tracks and a collaboration under her belt.

2. As a solo artist

Soyeon’s journey as a trainee was crowned with a contract signature with Cube Entertainment, soon followed by a self-composed solo debut with “Jelly” and “Idle Song.” Fast forward four years later, and the fervent soloist makes a comeback. This time she releases her first EP “Windy” as singer, songwriter, and composer, with “BEAM BEAM” serving as the title track. The mini album introduces Soyeon’s alter ego Windy who, just like the name hints, is carefree and easygoing. It’s fair to say that Soyeon put her talent on display with utmost confidence.

3. As a leader

Shortly after her solo debut, Soyeon geared up for another debut with (G)I-DLE. Taking on the roles of leader, main rapper, vocalist, and center, she does not hold back from going all in as her name is credited on most of the group’s releases: from “LATATA” which she wrote to speed up the group’s debut process as they were lacking a song to debut with, to her continuous contributions in later comebacks. Soyeon has successfully managed to leave her print on all of (G)I-DLE’s discography, rightfully so.

4. As a collaborator

Surely one cannot get enough of Soyeon’s overflowing talent, so when you hear about her engaging in collaborations, you know you’re in for a mind-blowing musical ride. Her collaboration “Wow Thing” with Red Velvet’s Seulgi, GFRIEND‘s SinB, and Chungha was the talk of the town. Later on, her participation in the opening ceremony of League of Legends’ 2018 World Championship Finals alongside fellow member Miyeon and artists Madison Beer and Jaira Burns under the name K/DA was exciting on a worldwide scale. It’s clear that Soyeon has made a stellar impression since she was invited to feature on the “League of Legends” EP titled “All Out” as well. Another collaboration worth mentioning is her popping feature on Hyoyeon‘s (HYO’s) “Dessert” where she served the audience a summer jam to remember.

5. As a producer

Soyeon’s undeniable ear for music combined with her writing, composing, and arranging skills has earned her the title of “producer-dol.” This label is a portmanteau for producer and idol, making her one of the few rising female idols to jump on the bandwagon. Aside from her personal releases and her contributions to (G)I-DLE, the producer has expanded her gift to other idols, as she is credited for senior labelmate group CLC‘s “No” and Apink’s Namjoo‘s “Bird.”  She also produced for the top 7 competitors of the teen reality survival show “CAP-TEEN,” where she bestowed her magic upon participant Lee Seobin’s “Eternal Sunshine.”
