Watch: Song Ji Hyo And “The Witch’s Diner” Cast Dish On The Hardest Part Of Filming, Their Real-Life Wishes, And More
The stars of “The Witch’s Diner” sat down for an exclusive interview with Rakuten Viki!
Based on a novel by Goo Sang Hee, “The Witch’s Diner” is a dark fantasy drama about a magical restaurant that sells food that grants wishes in exchange for the customers’ souls. Song Ji Hyo stars as Hee Ra, the witch who owns the restaurant, while Nam Ji Hyun stars as her business partner Jin. Chae Jong Hyeop plays part-time employee Gil Yong, and Ha Do Kwon plays Hee Ra’s right-hand man Mr. Oh.
In the newly released interview, the cast members take turns introducing their characters and attempting to sum up their drama in just five syllables. Nam Ji Hyun chooses the phrase “Brutal fantasy,” explaining, “At first, I thought it would be a warm-hearted fantasy tale with lots of relatable human elements, but there are chilling scenes in between where people pay a steep price for having their wishes granted.”
Meanwhile, Song Ji Hyo replies, “Wishes and dishes. Each dish in the drama is customized for its wish, so I hope the viewers enjoy seeing them. There’s also a lot of traditional Korean cuisine, so I think you’ll be able to see a lot of Korean culture through the food.”
Later on in the interview, Ha Do Kwon reveals the hilariously unexpected hardest part of filming: trying to control his laughter while Song Ji Hyo was watching him from off-camera. “Above all else, the hardest part was that Mr. Oh is a very cool character, and he needs to look stylish and act really cool,” he shared with a laugh. “Seeing Hee Ra watching me from behind the camera while I was acting cool was the hardest part of playing my role. We couldn’t stand watching each other act cool, so we would both cringe behind the camera while watching one another.”
The cast members go on to answer several other questions, such as what they would wish for if an actual witch’s diner existed in real life, what makes Song Ji Hyo’s character so attractive, and more.
