MONSTA X's I.M Talks About The Provocative Lyrics For

In a recent interview and pictorial for Dazed magazine, MONSTA X’s I.M opened up about his inspiration for some of the songs he’s written.

During the interview, I.M was asked about his self-composed solo song “flower-ed” and its emphasis on the beauty of the past (“this flower was once there”), rather than the sadness of the present (“the flower has wilted and died”).

“That’s right,” said I.M. “I added a past-tense ‘-ed’ to ‘flower.’ The point is not that a flower just died one day, but that it was once fully in bloom, that there was once love. Because even if it withers, a flower is still a flower. The same way that just because the world surrounding something has changed doesn’t mean that its essence has changed.”

I.M also spoke about his self-composed track “Rotate,” which he once described as his favorite B-side from their recent mini album “One of a Kind.”

“I’ve heard people say that the lyrics are kind of racy,” I.M remarked with a laugh. “That wasn’t my intention, but as I wrote the lyrics, I think the song’s vibe kind of ended up like that.”

He went on to explain, “I wanted to talk about a relationship and the times when subtle emotions are exchanged between two people. As they circle back and forth like that, these two people are caught in an ambiguous situation, and I wrote about that in the song titled ‘Rotate.'”
