On December 2, the 2021 Asia Artist Awards took place at the KBS Arena Hall to celebrate actors and musicians from across Asia.
Nine Daesangs (Grand Prizes) were awarded at this year’s ceremony: Song of the Year, Actor of the Year, TV Actor of the Year, Film Actor of the Year, Album of the Year, Trot of the Year, Performance of the Year, Singer of the Year, and Stage of the Year.
BTS won Song of the Year for “Butter,” which was their second consecutive time winning Song of the Year. They did not attend the 2021 AAA as they are in Los Angeles for their “PERMISSION TO DANCE – LA” concerts at the SoFi Stadium. In their video speech, they said, “Thank you for choosing ‘Butter’ as the best song of the year. We’re grateful to our fans for loving us. We hope that ‘Butter’ will be a song that remains in people’s memories for a long time. There’s one month left of 2021 and we hope that people will have a good end of the year.”
NCT 127 won Album of the Year. Doyoung, who also won AAA Focus (Actor), accepted the award on behalf of the group and said, “First, I want to thank Lee Soo Man and the rest of our family and staff at SM. I think that this award, ‘Album of the Year,’ is a really amazing award. I think that as singers, we can receive such meaningful awards through our fans, who took the time and effort to share their wholehearted love with us. I think that we have to repay that love through good albums and performances. We will become an NCT 127 that can prove the reason for why people love us.”
Lee Jung Jae, who won Actor of the Year, said, “Thank you for giving me such a huge award. I think that the success of ‘Squid Game’ is like a miracle. I want to share this honor with the actors and staff I worked with, along with the viewers from all over the world.”
Lee Seung Gi won TV Actor of the Year and said, “I think that the reason I got a lot of good feedback on ‘Mouse’ was because of the actors I worked with. I debuted in 2004 and have walked the path of an actor until now. I have some regrets, but I am grateful to the fans who have cheered me on all this time.”
Yoo Ah In, who won Film Actor of the Year, said, “I participated in a small-scale movie called ‘Voice of Silence,’ but have received such big awards. I will work hard to become an actor who can become the key point for a movie and show the attraction of my role onscreen.”
SEVENTEEN won Singer of the Year and said, “We’re sincerely happy to be a team that can receive so much love and give so much love to many people during our promotions. We won’t take this for granted and keep becoming a team that can promote well.”
Lim Young Woong won Trot of the Year for the second year in a row and said, “It’s a happy day. It was an honor just to be invited, but to have won four awards, I am sincerely thankful to my Heroes’ Generation [fan club name] family. There are many more people than just me who have devoted themselves to promoting trot music. I will think of myself as accepting this award on behalf of them. Please stay happy and healthy.”
aespa, who won Stage of the Year, said, “To the MY [fan club name] that we love, we’ve received an award! It’s been a year since our debut, but thanks to you, we were able to receive an award. Since we’ve received so much love, we’ll become an aespa that works harder with a greater sense of responsibility rather than pressure.” The girl group also thanked their agency staff and Winter added, “We are grateful and honored to have gone from the Best New Artist award to the Daesang.”
Stray Kids, who won Performance of the Year, said, “We’re honored and grateful to have received this amazing award at AAA. Thank you to our agency family, the members, and the fans. We’ll become a Stray Kids that works hard. To bear the weight of this award, we will continue to show good performances and a positive effect on the world.”
