Watch: Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, Sehun, And More Brave Dangerous Waters In Action-Packed Trailer For “The Pirates” Sequel
The highly anticipated sequel to “The Pirates” has released its main trailer!
A follow-up to the 2014 film “The Pirates,” “The Pirates: Goblin Flag” is a period action-adventure comedy about a group of fortune-seekers who take to the high seas searching for lost treasure. Kang Ha Neul stars as Woo Moo Chi, a bandit leader who claims to be the top swordsman in Goryeo; Han Hyo Joo as Hae Rang, a tough pirate captain and ship owner; Lee Kwang Soo as Mak Yi, who dreams of becoming a pirate king; EXO’s Sehun as Han Goong, a talented archer; Chae Soo Bin as Hae Geum, a natural con artist; and Kwon Sang Woo as villain Boo Heung Soo, a rebel who also sets his sights on the lost treasure.
The main trailer opens with a teaser of the film’s balance between spectacular adventure and comedy. Up in the rigging, Kang Ha Neul brandishes his finger in the air and yells excitedly, “Let’s go!”, only for Han Hyo Joo to jerk him back and say with tolerant amusement, “Stop fooling around and get down from there.”
In the next scene, Lee Kwang Soo stands nervously while surrounded by pirates, and Park Ji Hwan asks him, “Who are you?” Lee Kwang Soo replies that he’s a pirate, and Park Ji Hwan comments, “I haven’t seen you around before.” Lee Kwang Soo replies, “It’s only my fifth day.”
Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, and the others are searching for a imperial treasure that was stolen and lost at sea. Their quest takes them to mysterious caves and unknown islands, where they encounter a penguin for the first time. But Kwon Sang Woo is also pursuing the treasure and is determined to make it his at all costs. He believes that the goblin flag holds a clue to the riddle of the missing treasure.
As the battle for the treasure gets pitched and the ships are beset by lightning on the stormy seas, Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, and Kwon Sang Woo show off their swordsmanship, while Sehun sets up his character as a master archer. Lee Kwang Soo continues to show his comedy chops as he leaves his audience hanging by forgetting what he was saying in the middle of his story and crying at the top of the mast and saying, “Mom, I became the pirate king.”
