3 Reasons To Tune In To The Premiere Of New Action Suspense Drama "Insider"

JTBC’s “Insider” is gearing up for its premiere!

“Insider” is an action suspense drama about Kim Yo Han (played by Kang Ha Neul), a judicial trainee who experiences a crisis while undercover for an investigation of a corrupt prosecutor and ends up struggling to try to obtain a hand of cards that will change his fate. While in prison, he begins to plot revenge for the betrayal he has experienced.

Below are three reasons to tune in to the upcoming drama!

1. Mixed genre with powerful action and thrilling psychological battles

“Insider” is a story that revolves around Kim Yo Han’s growth and revenge, delivering a new form of catharsis to viewers. Above all, the unique fictional backdrop of Seongju Prison, a lawless zone in which various figures gather and fight, will be an interesting element of the story. In a location that blends greed and illegality, Kim Yo Han’s struggles will be both physical with intense action and psychological with mind games that add thrill to the story.

Director Min Yeon Hong shared in a previous interview, “The setup in which the prison becomes one huge playing field, the war of the great forces in that world, and the main characters’ struggles as they run towards revenge with their lives on the line come together to tell one story. [These stories] are intricately woven together and packed into this ‘mixed genre’ piece.”

2. Kang Ha Neul’s powerful transformation: the chase for justice

Even from a visual aspect, Kang Ha Neul makes a shocking new transformation into the character of Kim Yo Han. With his undeniably skilled acting, Kang Ha Neul flawlessly portrays Kim Yo Han’s frightening narrative and growth.

The actor shared, “This is a project I came across while thinking, ‘What can I do with the script I read so that the viewers can also enjoy watching [the drama],’ rather than resolving to show a different type of acting.” He remarked, “Kim Yo Han is a character who walks a thin line between the resentment and rage that are burning in his heart and his cold rationality. I put in a lot of thought into portraying his inner feelings since I couldn’t reveal too much.”

The director added, “This piece would not have been able to exist if not for Kang Ha Neul. There were many taxing scenes, and every moment was filled with Kang Ha Neul’s performance.”

3. A star-studded and talented cast perfect for the genre

Another reason to tune into “Insider” is the cast lineup which consists of actors who are perfect for this genre of drama. Lee Yoo Young will join the drama as Oh Soo Yeon, an underground businesswoman who recognizes Kim Yo Han’s prodigious aspect and proposes him an offer in order to achieve her goals.

Heo Sung Tae plays the corrupt sponsored prosecutor Yoon Byung Wook. As the tacit power of the prosecutor’s office, Yoon Byung Wook will directly go up against Kim Yo Han. Furthermore, Kim Sang Ho will play prosecutor Mok Jin Hyung who personally picks Kim Yo Han to go undercover, showing great teamwork with Kang Ha Neul in the process.

Within Seongju Prison is also Jang Sun Oh (Kang Young Seok), an inmate with crazy energy like a bomb and the spirit of a genius player, and Song Doo Cheol (Choi Moo Sung), an inmate with frightening charisma who is a gangster and a gambler. Han Jae Young plays Song Doo Cheol’s junior and the owner of a secretive gambling house, while Choi Dae Hoon plays the mysterious inmate Noh Seung Hwan who takes a step back from the prison’s chain-like hierarchy.

Finally, ahead of the drama’s premiere, Kang Ha Neul, Lee Yoo Young, and Heo Sung Tae shared messages to the viewers. Kang Ha Neul shared, “I want to repay viewers for taking the time to watch our drama. I hope that it becomes such a project [that can be a gift to viewers], and it will become such a project. I hope you enjoy watching.”

Lee Yoo Young commented, “I think it will become a drama that has everything from thrill, action, and entertainment to touching moments. Since I’m greeting [viewers] for the first time in a while through a drama, I’m nervous but also looking forward to it. I met a new type of character and put in as much effort as it was difficult. Please anticipate it a lot.”
