Watch: Girls’ Generation’s Yuri Hilariously Apologizes After Mistaking Kim Young Chul For SM’s Founder Lee Soo Man
On the July 19 broadcast of Girls’ Generation’s reality show “So Shi Tam Tam” (romanized title), the members participated in three extreme missions, including sky gliding, off-road luge, and an alpine coaster.
During the final alpine coaster mission, the group members were shown photos of 10 different stars throughout the ride and had to memorize their names in order. During Yuri’s run, she immediately recognized Kang Ho Dong, but was just as quick to name Lee Soo Man while looking at comedian Kim Young Chul’s photo. Even after the ride was finished, Yuri confidently stated, “I almost thought Lee Soo Man was someone else!”
The correct order of celebrities was Kang Ho Dong, Kim Young Chul, Son Suk Ku, Lee Hyori, Code Kunst, Jo Jung Suk, Dooly, Jun Hyun Moo, Lee Yong Jin, and Eugene. While desperately trying to memorize the list, Yuri hilariously asked Tiffany, “Who was after Lee Soo Man?” Confused, Tiffany later asked herself, “Why was Yuri talking about Lee Soo Man earlier? Lee Soo Man is not here…”
When it was her turn to guess the answer, Yuri boldly stated, “Kang Ho Dong, Lee Soo Man,” before she was quickly interrupted by a loud “ding!”, indicating her incorrect guess. Shocked, Yuri asked for a second chance and continued sharing her answer.
After showing off her hilariously smart and otherwise successful memorization method, Yuri asked Hyoyeon, “Isn’t it Lee Soo Man? If it’s not Lee Soo Man, who is it?” Hyoyeon shocked her as she clarified, “Kim Young Chul.”

Once Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Tiffany were joined by Sunny, Sooyoung, and Taeyeon, Yuri gave a quick apology to SM Entertainment’s founder Lee Soo Man. Hyoyeon explained the situation, saying, “Do you know what [Yuri] said? She called Kim Young Chul, Lee Soo Man,” making everyone burst into laughter.
Yuri calmly commented, “Lee Soo Man, I’m really sorry. Kim Young Chul, I’m sorry. To both people, I’ve made a grave mistake.” Tiffany jokingly chimed in, “Aren’t you still [signed to] SM Entertainment?”, adding fuel to the fire.
JTBC’s “So Shi Tam Tam” airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. KST. Girls’ Generation is currently gearing up to make their first group comeback in five years this August.
