5 Of Cha Eun Woo's K-Dramas To Watch If You Like Webtoons
Have you ever wondered what your favorite webtoon hero would look like? In all likelihood it’s probably Cha Eun Woo. His clean-cut good looks and boyish charm have made him the poster boy when it comes to adaptations of popular webtoons and novels on screen. From playing a popular high school student to a teacher petrified of dogs or an exorcising priest, Cha Eun Woo has aced many manhwa avatars by bringing them alive on screen. Here are five Cha Eun Woo dramas that are popular adaptations of webtoons and books.
“A Good Day to Be a Dog”
Han Hae Na (Park Gyu Young), a teacher, suffers from a strange malady: she turns into a dog whenever she is kissed by a man on the lips. This translates to a life of doom, after all, how can she possibly have a relationship? Though she is infatuated with her colleague Lee Bo Kyum (Lee Hyun Woo), she mistakenly kisses her other colleague Jin Seo Won (Cha Eun Woo), the high school math teacher. The inevitable happens as she turns into a dog, and the only antidote is for Seo Won to kiss her back for her to turn human. But the catch is that Seo Won is scared stiff of dogs.
Cha Eun Woo is endearing as Seo Won. He appears aloof and reserved, weighed down by his past. There is a loving side to him as well, but he keeps it down. He portrays startled expressions and trying hard to be the fearless big guy quite well. There is no reason not to extend paw applause to Cha Eun Woo, who is maturing in his skills as an actor.

“True Beauty”
Lim Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young) has been so conscious about her looks that it is a second lease on life when her family moves town. Getting the perfect opportunity to reinvent herself, she transforms her looks, thanks to many makeup tutorials. As she makes quite a statement in her new school, she finds herself entwined with the reserved Lee Su Ho (Cha Eun Woo) and Han Seo Jun (Hwang In Yeop), one-time besties who are now sworn enemies.
Su Ho may be the cool guy in school, but he carries enormous emotional baggage on his young shoulders. From his family issues to a tragic past, he keeps his feelings bottled in. Cha Eun Woo, who is lovingly called the visual king by fans, manages to get the many aspects of his character right, making full use of his facial expressions. His bromance with Hwang In Yeop is cute, and there’s quite a lot of second lead syndrome as well.

“My ID is Gangnam Beauty”
Kang Mi Rae (Im Soo Hyang) is so ill at ease with the way she looks and decides that getting plastic surgery is the only way forward. On her first day at university, Mi Rae runs into Do Kyung Suk (Cha Eun Woo). Kyung Suk was one of the most sought-after boys when they were in elementary school together. Kyung Suk is someone who does not get swayed by people or by their looks but is more taken in with who they truly are on the inside. He recognizes Mi Rae, but instead of only seeing her as a Gangnam Beauty, Kyung Suk’s feelings are beyond the external and for what she represents to the world. He takes it upon himself to instill confidence in Mi Rae.
Though we once again see Cha Eun Woo playing an emotionally burdened teenager, he portrays Kyung Suk’s angst effortlessly. His character won major points for being a genuine and trusting person. And if that is not swoon-worthy, then what is?

“Island”
An adaptation of a manhwa, “Island” is the story of three formidable individuals who take on the fight against evil to protect their island and the world from malevolent forces. Starring an ensemble cast which includes Kim Nam Gil, Lee Da Hee, and Sung Joon in pivotal roles, the drama stars Cha Eun Woo as the exorcist priest Yohan. In the fight against dark forces, Yohan’s skills in exorcism are a prerequisite for the safety of the island.
This was one of the first dramas where we see him not only mouthing Latin dialogues, but even doing live-action sequences. Seeing his cool turn in the action space, it makes you want to see him in a true blue action genre. What do you think?
“Top Management”
Eun Sung (Seo Eun Soo) is a manager at an entertainment agency. However, she has a quirk, which is the knack of seeing into the future. She uses this gift to gauge which of the groups have a chance to make it big in the industry. And Cha Eun Woo plays Yeon Woo, an idol who is part of S.O.U.L, a boy band which has been tirelessly trying to succeed.
Cha Eun Woo is effortless in his portrayal of Yeon Woo. As reel imitates real, he is at absolute ease in bringing forth the journey of his character, such as the grind trainees and idols go through, their struggles, and the highs and the lows which accompany life in this rather competitive space. His chemistry with Ahn Hyo Seop is also a delight to watch and will make you wonder why we haven’t seen them together in a project again.
