Lee Sung Kyung Is An Aspiring Singer And Lee Dong Wook's First Love In "The Nice Guy”
JTBC’s upcoming drama “The Nice Guy” has unveiled a first glimpse of Lee Sung Kyung in character!
“The Nice Guy” is a noir drama that follows Park Seok Chul (Lee Dong Wook), the eldest grandson of a third-generation gangster family with an unexpectedly pure heart, and his first love Kang Mi Young (Lee Sung Kyung), a woman who dreams of becoming a singer.
Lee Sung Kyung plays Kang Mi Young, a woman who holds onto her dreams of becoming a singer despite life’s harsh realities and her crippling stage fright. As Park Seok Chul’s first love, Mi Young reunites with him by fate, setting the stage for a major turning point in her life.
The newly released stills capture the depth of Mi Young’s character. In one, she appears filled with quiet excitement upon returning to her hometown. Another shows her eyes clouded with longing as if recalling memories of someone dear. In the third image, she stands onstage, completely absorbed in song—revealing the strength and sincerity behind her lifelong dream. Despite caring for her ailing mother and taking on endless part-time jobs to make ends meet, Mi Young has never once let go of her dream of becoming a singer.
Lee Sung Kyung is also expected to showcase her vocal abilities as the singer-songwriter Mi Young. Lee Sung Kyung shared, “Mi Young is a resilient woman who keeps smiling even in the face of adversity. As she reconnects with Seok Chul and falls in love again, she begins to grow and feel new emotions. I acted with the hope that viewers would root for her.”
To fully embody the role, Lee Sung Kyung committed to intensive preparation. “For Mi Young, who’s been supporting her only family member, her dream of becoming a singer is her one gift to herself,” she explained. “I worked hard to practice the piano pieces and songs created by our music director with great care. Even the well-known songs Mi Young sings in the drama were recorded and performed with everything I had.”
“The Nice Guy” is set to premiere on July 18 at 8:50 p.m. KST. The drama will air two consecutive episodes every Friday, marking the start of JTBC’s Friday Series lineup. Stay tuned!
