“Confessions” Director Tetsuya Nakashima Wants to Work with Kang Dong Won

Director Tetsuya Nakashima will visit Korea in time for his Confessions’ (2010) March 31^st Korean theatrical premiere. Confessions took Japan by the storm with its dark and intense plot. The story revolves around a junior high school teacher (Matsu Takako) seeking revenge of the murder of her daughter. She believes her 13 year-old students are responsible for daughter’s death. Director Tetsuya Nakashima is well-known for creating dramatic and compelling films like Kamikaze Girls (2004) and Memories of Matsuko (2006).

Tetsuya Nakashima has built himself a solid reputation over the years for his creativity and ability to accurately express the human emotions. Recently, he pointed Kang Dong Won as the Korean actor he wanted to collaborate with. Kang Dong Won is currently serving his country as a public service worker. Nakashima stated, “There are many excellent Korean actors; but if I were to choose one actor to work with, it would be Kang Dong Won. Plus, my wife is a hard-core fan.”

He also named Lee Chang Dong as the best director in the world, regardless of nationality. Director Lee was awarded the Best Screenplay Award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival for his movie Poetry (2010). Nakashima commented, “I was awed at how deeply Lee Chang Dong depicted the human psyche. I would really like to meet him and learn firsthand how he starts brainstorming and creating movies.”

Confessions became a hot topic for highlighting matters of juvenile law and claimed the top spot in the Japanese box office for four weeks. It also dominated the 34^th Japanese Academy Awards by taking the Best Picture Award, along with Best Director, Screenplay, and Editing.
