CL’s “F*ck Everything” T-Shirt Sparks Controversy for Sexual Expression

2NE1’s CL has been at the center controversy lately for the outfit she wore on her way to Japan last week. On Sept. 2, the leader of 2NE1 wore a t-shirt clad in suggestive expressions such as, “F*ck Everything,” “Girl Friend from Hell,” and “Cut Here—Take My Tits.”

Photos of CL’s shirt quickly caught fire as translations of the phrases were immediately posted online. Also, the photos spread fast because it was a pretty publicized event for the girls were headed to Japan for their first Japanese album promotions. Fans started disputing whether her fashion was inappropriate in such public space, especially considering she’s one of the most popular idol group members (and role models) in the industry.

Netizens against CL’s outfit have argued, “The shirt’s very inappropriate for an idol singer to wear because she has so much influence on teens,” and “It was totally imprudent of CL, who’s fluent in English, to wear that type of shirt, since there’s no way she wouldn’t have known what the shirt was saying.”

However, her proponents have commented, “It’s just her fashion,” “You can’t fault her for the outfits she wore in non-official appearances,” and “The shirt is a famous designer outfit, so just let her be herself.”

In fact, it was later discovered the shirt’s design was indeed inspired by British designers, Tim Noble & Sue Webster, as seen on their website.

What do you think of CL’s outfit? Was it inappropriate, or should we just call it freedom of expression?
