Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2011 - November Week 4
We have a new No. 1 song this week as Wonder Girls’ “Be My Baby” moves up six spots to the top. They have an impressive score of 952 points in just its second week on the chart. In the meantime, WG also unseated three time champion SNSD‘s “The Boys” from the top. WG and SNSD are probably the two most well known K-pop girl groups internationally and it is no surprise that they came in first and second on the chart this week. November has always been a good month for Wonder Girls – their previous classic hits “Tell Me” and “Nobody” were also No. 1 songs in November.
The female dominance on the chart continues as Wonder Girls become the eleventh different girl groups to hit the top spot of our chart this year, joining Secret (twice), 4minute, f(x), T-Ara, miss A, Sistar, Davichi, Kara, Brown Eyed Girls, and SNSD. Don’t be surprised to see many of these groups in the top 10 of our year end chart, which we will announced next month.
R&B quartet Noel scores their first top three hit as “I Miss You” moves up another spot to No. 3. This is perhaps the biggest surprise hit song in the last quarter of this year. “I Miss You” also has strong staying power as it is still moving up in between many big name artists around on the chart. This week it leapfrogs Lee Seung Ki‘s Inkigayo mutizen winner “We’re Friends” to No. 3.
Only two new songs in the top 10 this week. T-Ara is looking to re-claim the top spot soon as their latest hit “Cry Cry” moves into the top 10 this week at No. 6. The song is written by top composer Cho Young Soo, who hasn’t been as active this year as he has been in previous years. The strong beats and guitar sounds give a Spanish feel to this song. It expresses the sad heart for one’s ex-lover. “Cry Cry” has both a dance and ballad version, of which T-Ara has performed both on stage. The song also features a few MVs, including a movie-like 15-minute long MV starring Cha Seung Won, Ji Chang Wook, Lee Jae Young and T-Ara’s own Eunjung, Hyomin, Ji Yeon, and Qri. The other two versions of the MV are normal lengths (one dance version and one ballad version) starring T-Ara members.
Huh Gak also returns to the top 10 this week with a digital single ballad “Only Say That I Want To Die.” The Superstar K2 winner seems to be getting hit after hit. This song is different from the usual style Huh Gak has showed fans. The drama version of the song holds Kang Sora’s narration, bringing out a dramatic feel to the song. The guitar and the sound of rain is further incorporated in the song to perfect this mood. The MV is a continuation of his previous hit “Hello“, starring Lee Hyun Jin, Beast‘s Yong Jun Hyung, and Kang Sora.

YESTERDAY ONCE MORE:
The Jadu – 대화가 필요해 (We Need To Talk)
Genre: Acoustic Pop Ballad
Album: The Jadu Vol. 2 (2002) Track 6
Watch: MV
Comment: The Jadu is a mixed duo first formed by female vocalist Jadu and male vocalist/guitarist Kangdu, debuted in 2001 with the song “Goodbye“. At that time k-pop artists are mostly single genre artists but The Jadu did a variety of music genres on their albums, from the fun free style pop tunes to funk rock to acoustic they can do it all. They are one of the more underrated groups in the early 2000s yet many of their songs appeared on the top 10. Fans may remember the fun “Kim Bap” song the most. “We Need To Talk” is the title song of their second album in 2002. It is an acoustic mid-tempo ballad that has a very relaxed and easy listening feel. Kangdu later left the group and was replaced by another male member Maru. The last we heard of The Jadu was in 2008.
