SNSD Writes History in Japan with “Girls’ Generation”

SNSD’s first Japanese album, “Girls’ Generation,” has set a new record in Japan!

On January 16, Japan’s Oricon chart said SNSD’s Japanese debut album, “Girls’ Generation,” sold an additional 16,000 copies last week, putting them at #5 on the weekly Oricon Album charts. This is the 17th consecutive week where the album has placed in the Top 10 of the chart, which is the longest record by any Korean album. Their total sale has reached 780,000 copies since its release on June 1 last year.

This breaks the 2003 record set by the OST album of mega hit drama, “Winter Sonata,” which stayed in the top 10 for 16 consecutive weeks. SNSD’s “Girls’ Generation” sold 232,000 copies in the first week of release, which is the highest record by any foreign artist in Japan. Also, it ranked #5 on Oricon’s annual album sales rankings last year, selling a total of 642,000 copies in 2011 alone.

Congratulations SNSD! Enjoy the “Bad Girl” MV from their “Girls’ Generation” Japanese album!
