Kim Soo Hyun’s Interview about Father’s Rock Band Draws Renewed Interest

As MBC drama, “The Moon that Embraces the Sun,” continues to hit #1 TV ratings, fans have been tracking the main lead Kim Soo Hyun’s past photos and interviews. The latest “discovery” has been his last year’s interview with SBS “One Night of TV Entertainment,” where he revealed his father’s past as a rock band vocalist.

In the interview, Kim Soo Hyun said, “Before I was born, my father was the vocalist of a band called, ‘Seven Dolphins.’”

He continued, “I asked him, ‘How come you didn’t become popular on national TV? Wouldn’t it have been better had you succeeded on national TV?’ And he answered in one sentence. ‘Song Gol Mae debuted back then.’”

Song Gol Mae was one of the most popular rock bands in the 80s. Kim Soo Hyun’s father playfully reasoned his band’s lack of success (on national TV) on the debut of one of the most popular and successful rock bands of all time in Korea. However, Seven Dolphins wasn’t just one of the underground bands as it actually was quite popular in the 1980s, achieving success at the national stage.
