National K-Pop Ranking System Gaon to Open an “SNS” Chart

Gaon will be creating an “SNS” (social network service) chart soon. The Gaon Chart is a music ranking system run by the national Korea Music Content Industry Association and is considered to be one of the most central and relevant ranking service in South Korea. MBC’s “Music Core” and SBS’ Inkigayo” both get their ranking data from Gaon to determine their weekly winners. Our very own Soompi K-Pop Music Chart uses data from Gaon.

The Gaon SNS chart will rank songs based on traffic from social networking sites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Me2Day, and more. It is similar to Billboards’ “Social 50” chart.

The organization stated, “We will be holding an agency public hearing regarding the Gaon Chart SNS service this week and an information session at the end of this month.”

The Gaon SNS chart will be available starting June.
