Fire vs. Gold vs. Shark: Which Mon-Tues Drama Came Out on Top?

It’s the new summer season of K-dramas with “Goddess of Fire, Jung-yi” and “Empire of Gold” premiering yesterday night, July 1, entering the tight Monday-Tuesday drama ratings race.

MBC’s “Goddess of Fire, Jung-yi” came out strong, placing first with double digits (10.7% ), according to Nielsen Korea. KBS’ “Shark” placed second with 9.4% and SBS’ “Empire of Gold” was last with 8.5%.

“Goddess of Fire” stars Moon Geun Young,Lee Sang YoonKim Bum, and Lee Kwang Soo among its cast. Moon Geun Young plays the titular role of Yoo Jung, Joseon dynasty’s greatest and first female ceramic artist. The drama follows her life and her love story with Crown Prince Gwang Hae, played by Lee Sang Yoon. It replaced “Gu Family Book” which ended last week, remaining the top rated drama for most of its run. 

“Empire of Gold” stars Go Soo, Lee Yo Won, and Son Hyun Joo as leads in this epic drama about a rising chaebol empire. Go Soo plays the hero who starts with nothing to build an “empire of gold” going up against already established chaebols.

“Shark” is the only one among the three that is already halfway past its run, airing the 12th episode yesterday out of its 20. “Shark” stars Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin in the revenge-thriller drama. Kim Nam Gil is the hero who must take revenge against the family of the person he loves, played by Son Ye Jin.
