Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2013 - July Week 2

The top three songs remained the same this week but No. 1 and  No. 2 switched place.  Lee Seung Chul’s “My Love” moves up to the top spot this week over SISTAR’s “Give It To Me.” “My Love” is Lee Seung Chul’s first No. 1 song on our chart. The previous closest he got was No. 2 back in 2006 with “Screaming.” It is nice to see a non-idol artist hitting the top of the chart especially in the middle of summer, when all the high tier idols are releasing their new songs.

Below the top three we find five consecutive new songs to the top 10 this week. At No. 4, Girl’s Day is back to the top five with “Female President,” the title song of their repackaged first album. It is a catchy song about girls who no longer wait for the boys to confess their love. Instead, they take the initiative.  The song title itself is also attention drawing since Korea is having a female president now. Last week, Girl’s Day had their first win on a music show when “Female President” was the top song on SBS Inkigayo.

Moving up 13 spots to No. 5 is Superstar K4 winner Roy Kim’s new song “Love Love Love,” the title track from his first full length album.  Roy Kim was in the top five a few weeks ago with “Bom Bom Bom.”  Continuing with a folk style, “Love Love Love” is a track with a cheerful melody that anyone can easily hum to.

Korea’s most unique rapper Outsider is back in the top ten  for the first time in more than three years with “Sad Bird,” featuring the vocal of ballad queen Lee Soo Young. It moves up 20 spots this week. The song is about a wife who waits for her husband who has gone afar for so long that she dies and becomes a fossil. Lee Soo Young’s vocal is a sharp contrast to Outsider’s super fast rapping, but it comes out well on this song.

Debuting at No. 7 is 4minute’s new song “Is It Poppin?” Fresh off winning the top song of first half 2013 on our chart with “What’s Your Name,” the girls are back with is a hip-hop dance number with an upbeat melody line which is expected to capture listeners’ ears. Unlike their recent hits, “Is It Poppin?” is a cuter song that is good to listen to in the summer.

Popular rapper Verbal Jint is back with his third top 10 hit this year, “Walking In The Rain” featuring the vocal of Bumkey, who just had his own top 10 hit “Bad Girl” last week. This upbeat number is about a person who is betrayed by a lover. Aside from his own hit songs “Good Start” and “No Love,” Verbal Jint was also featured on hits by Cho Yong Pil, Seo In Kook, Davichi, and Phantom.  He is truly the busiest K-Pop artist so far in 2013.
