Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2013 - August Week 3
The top spot on our chart and many other music charts in Korea have been a game of musical chairs this summer. It is not a surprise that we have yet another new No. 1 song this week.
In a hotly contested week where the top six songs all scored over 800 points, f(x)’s “Rum Pum Pum Pum” is the only song with a score well over 900 points (963) and won easily. This song debuted at No. 10 last week and swept all music show rankings in Korea. It is also among the top songs on independent charts. As a result, “Rum Pum Pum Pum” moves up nine spots to No. 1 this week. Congratulations to f(x).
Moving up two more spots to No. 2, and continuing the most amazing story in K-Pop this year, is Crayon Pop and their hit track “Bar Bar Bar.” This song wasn’t popular when it was first released, but word had spread about the creative dance steps of the song and Crayon Pop’s funny and colorful costumes. The music video went viral and became a bigger and bigger hit each week. This week “Bar Bar Bar” just edged out last week’s No. 1, Beast’s “Shadow” by two points for the second spot.
There are four new songs in the top 10 this week. Moving up eight spots to No. 5 is Brown Eyed Girls’ “Kill Bill,” the title track from their fifth full album “Black Box.” “Kill Bill” has an addictive whistling intro, shuffle rhythm, and combines the modern retro sound. The lyrics is about revenge against man. Miryo’s breathtaking rap is a highlight of the song.
Our highest debut this week is at No. 8. Fast rising male group EXO is back in the top 10 with “Growl,” the title song of their repackaged first album. “Growl” is a dance number with urban, R&B sounds. The song holds witty lyrics about how a man feels when he doesn’t want to lose his lover to other men. Unlike their last track “Wolf,” “Growl” seems to be a lot better received in independent charts. This, plus its expected dominance in music show rankings, make it a legitimate threat to overtake labelmate F(x) for the top spot next week.
Rapper San E scores his first top 10 hit this week with “Story Of Someone I Know,” moving up 10 spots to No. 9. San E recently left JYP Entertainment to start a new chapter in his career. “Story of Someone I Know” is about a one sided love story. Besides his expertise in rapping, San E also performs the vocal part of this song to showcase that he is multi-talented. The song has a very listener friendly melody to go along with San E’s rapping.
Another artist scoring their first top 10 hit is six member male group VIXX. Their latest hit “G.R.8.U” moves up 14 spots to No. 10 this week. This is the title song of repackaged first mini-album “Jekyll.” It is a bright and lively track that makes listeners wanting to dance with VIXX.
