Prosecution Seeks Eight-Month Prison Sentence for Actor Ryu Shi Won

During the divorce trial held on August 20, the prosecution proposed an eight-month prison sentence for actor Ryu Shi Won for assaulting, threatening, and tracking his wife.

Ryu Shi Won married his wife in 2010 and in March of 2012 she filed for divorce.

According to the prosecutors, in May of 2011 Ryu Shi Won attached a GPS tracking device to his wife’s Mercedes-Benz and collected information on her goings and whereabouts for approximately eight months. When in August of that year his wife confronted him about the GPS tracker, the actor responded, “Are you kidding me? I’ll kill you.” He then hit her face with his hands. He threatened  “I know a lot of bad people. Where ever you go, whatever you do, I can get take a picture of it. I am a scary man.” A month later Ryu Shi Won attached another tracking device on his wife’s cellphone, to gather more information on her locations. 

Ryu Shi Won countered with charges of false accusation, fraud, invasion of privacy, and violation of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act.

After hearing the prosecution’s demands on August 20, Ryu Shi Won reportedly stated, “I no longer have any interest in the entertainment industry. I am willing to give up everything for my daughter. I am willing to do anything for my daughter. At the very least, I don’t want my daughter to see me as a father who did the things I am accused of doing. Please see the truth.”

The next day on his Facebook, Ryu Shi Won repeated his concern for his daughter, writing “My child. I am merely happy and thankful for your existence, and you give me strength. I love. I love, my child.”

Ryu Shi Won and his wife have one daughter between them.

The divorce trial will proceed onto part 3 on September 12.
